Egyptian Maus are not a common breed of domestic cats as there are only approximately 3000 in the world. They are the only domestic type of cat that has naturally occurring spots on its fur and skin. This breed of cat resembles an Ocicat although it is much larger in size. Maus come in various colors icluding bronze, silver, pewter, smoke and black.
Egyptian Maus can run as fast as a giraffe; thirty-six miles per hour. That's faster than any other domesticated feline. Their longer hind legs and a loose fold of skin on the lower part of their belly, allowing greater strides, contributes to their swiftness.
I would recommend that anyone choosing to own a Mau, take it to a 'cats only' veterinarian when needed. Maus are unlike other cats in that their bodies are highly sensitive to medicines so extra care must be taken, especially when anesthesia is involved. They also prefer a warmer environment.
Maus are known for their vocal 'chirping' and other odd yet musical cat chatter when they become excited or intrigued by something. They also when stimulated, are known to perform a type of behavior called "wiggle tail" which resembles marking of territory with the exception of any urine actually being sprayed.
